The Revelation of Jesus Christ - The Judgement Seat of Christ

The Judgment Seat of Christ

2 Corinthians 5:1-10

For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed,

we have a building from God,

a house not made with hands,

eternal in the heavens.

2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our

habitation

which is from heaven,

3 if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked.

4 For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened,

not because we want to be unclothed,

but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life.

5 Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God,

who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

6 So we are always confident,

knowing that while we are at home in the body

we are absent from the Lord.

7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the

body

and to be present with the Lord.

9 Therefore we make it our aim,

whether present or absent,

to be well pleasing to Him.

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,

that each one may receive the things done in the body,

according to what he has done,

whether good or bad.

The Judgment Seat of Christ

is only for Christians. (The Church)

The Judgment Seat of Christ is not

a judgment of SIN for punishment

but

a judgment of WORKS for REWARD.

1 Corinthians 3:1-15

Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos,

but ministers through whom you believed,

as the Lord gave to each one?

6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.

7 So then neither he who plants is anything,

nor he who waters,

but God who gives the increase.

8 Now he who plants and he who waters are one,

and each one will receive his own reward

according to his own labor.

9 For we are God's fellow workers;

you are God's field,

you are God's building.

10 According to the grace of God which was given to me,

as a wise master builder

I have laid the foundation,

and another builds on it.

But let each one take heed how he builds on it.

11 For no other foundation can anyone lay

than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.3

12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation

with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,

13 each one's work will become clear;

for the Day will declare it,

because it will be revealed by fire;

and the fire will test each one's work,

of what sort it is.

14 If anyone's work which he has built on it endures,

he will receive a reward.

15 If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss;

but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our Works will be judged by the all knowing,
discerning, righteous,
truth filled eyes of Jesus Christ
as He judge our works
and our motivation for our works
on the basis of the Word of God.
Revelation 1:12-17
12 Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me.
And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands,
13 and in the midst of the seven lampstands
One like the Son of Man,
clothed with a garment down to the feet
and girded about the chest with a golden band.
14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow,
and His eyes like a flame of fire;
15 His feet were like fine brass,
as if refined in a furnace,
and His voice as the sound of many waters;
16 He had in His right hand seven stars,
out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword,
and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.
17 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead.
NKJV
Our Works will be judged based on
our motivation for doing them.
Hebrews 4:12-13
12 For the word of God is living and powerful,
and sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing even to the division of soul and spirit,
and of joints and marrow,
and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight,
but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him
to whom we must give account.
Luke 16:15
15 And He said to them,
"You are those who justify yourselves before men,
but God knows your hearts.
For what is highly esteemed among men
is an abomination in the sight of God.
NKJV
1 Corinthians 9:16-17
16 For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of,
for necessity is laid upon me;
yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!
17 For if I do this willingly, I have a reward;
but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship.
NKJV
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Our Works will be judged based on

how faithful we have been

to use the gifts and enablement's God has given us.

Luke 12:48

... For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be

required;

and to whom much has been committed,

of him they will ask the more.

NKJV

Mark 12:41-44

Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury

and saw how the people put money into the treasury.

And many who were rich put in much.

42 Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites,

which make a quadrans.

43 So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them,

"Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow

has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury;

44 for they all put in out of their abundance,

but she out of her poverty put in all that she had,

her whole livelihood."

NKJV

Our Works will be judged based on

if we have been faithful to do

what we COULD do.

Mark 14:8-9

8 She has done what she could.

She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial.

9 Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the

whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a

memorial to her."

NKJV

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are not saved BY work
but as Christians we are saved TO work.
Ephesians 2:8-10
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of
yourselves;
it is the gift of God,
9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good
works,
which God prepared beforehand
that we should walk in them.
NKJV
Revelation 14:13
13 Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me,
"Write:'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.'"
"Yes," says the Spirit,"that they may rest from their labors,
and their works follow them."
NKJV7
Revelation 22:12
"And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me,
to give to every one according to his work.
Our Righteous Works are the material
for our Wedding Garment
Revelation 19:7-8
7 Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and His wife has made herself ready."
8 And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen,
clean and bright,
for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
NKJV
Heaven will not be the same experience
for everyone.
1 John 2:28
And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears,
we may have confidence
and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.
NKJV
2 John 8
8 Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for,
but that we may receive a full reward.
The Judgment Seat of Christ pt2
Revelation 20:11-15
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it,
from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away.
And there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God,
and books were opened.
And another book was opened,
which is the Book of Life.
And the dead were judged according to their works,
by the things which were written in the books.
13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it,
and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them.
And they were judged,
each one according to his works.
14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire.
This is the second death.
15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life
was cast into the lake of fire.
Hebrews 9:27
27 And as it is appointed for men to die once,
but after this the judgment,
Luke 8:18
17 For nothing is secret that will not be revealed,
nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.
Romans 2:16
16 in the day when God will judge the secrets of men
by Jesus Christ,9
Ecclesiastes 12:14
14 For God will bring every work into judgment,
Including every secret thing,
Whether good or evil.
Matthew 12:36-37
36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak,
they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
37 For by your words you will be justified,
and by your words you will be condemned."10
The Judgment Seat of Christ
Revelation 21:1-4
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth,
for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away.
Also there was no more sea.
2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem,
coming down out of heaven from God,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying,
"Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men,
and He will dwell with them,
and they shall be His people.
God Himself will be with them and be their God.
4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes;
there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying.
There shall be no more pain,
for the former things have passed away.
Hebrews 9:27
27 And as it is appointed for men to die once,
but after this the judgment,
2 Corinthians 5:9-10
Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent,
to be well pleasing to Him.
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,
that each one may receive the things done in the body,
according to what he has done,
whether good or bad.
Ephesians 2:8-10
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith,
and that not of yourselves;
it is the gift of God,
9 not of works,
lest anyone should boast.
10 For we are His workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand
that we should walk in them.
We were saved to perform Good Works.
But
What if we do not do them.
Will there not be consequences for our disobedience?
Will we never have to accept responsibility for
our failure to obey God's Word?
Matthew 6:20
20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor rust destroys
and where thieves do not break in and steal.
1 Corinthians 3:5-7
Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos,
but ministers through whom you believed,
as the Lord gave to each one?
6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.
7 So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters,
but God who gives the increase.
8 Now he who plants and he who waters are one,
and each one will receive his own reward
according to his own labor.
9 For we are God's fellow workers;
you are God's field,
you are God's building.
10 According to the grace of God which was given to me,
as a wise master builder
I have laid the foundation,
and another builds on it.
But let each one take heed
how he builds on it.
11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid,
which is Jesus Christ.
12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation
with gold, silver, precious stones,
wood, hay, straw,13
13 each one's work will become clear;
for the Day will declare it,
because it will be revealed by fire;
and the fire will test each one's work,
of what sort it is.
14 If anyone's work which he has built on it endures,
he will receive a reward.
15 If anyone's work is burned,
he will suffer loss;
but he himself will be saved,
yet so as through fire.
1 Corinthians 4:3-4
3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you
or by a human court.
In fact, I do not even judge myself.
4 For I know of nothing against myself,
yet I am not justified by this;
but He who judges me is the Lord.
5 Therefore judge nothing before the time,
until the Lord comes,
who will both bring to light
the hidden things of darkness
and reveal the counsels of the hearts.
Then each one's praise will come from God.
We need to live our lives
in light of the Judgment Seat of Christ.
We need to remember:
1. This life is training for the next.
Life in the Millennial Kingdom
and
Life in Eternity.
2. Every day we live is either a GAIN or a LOSS
as far as our Future Judgment
is concerned.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

To explain the PURPOSE and the REWARDS of the

Judgment Seat of Christ,

we need to go back to the beginning.

God is CONSISTANT.

His WORKING in the beginning with man

is the same as

His WORKING with man in the end.

Genesis 1:26

26 Then God said,"Let Us make man in Our image,

according to Our likeness;

let THEM have dominion over the fish of the sea,

over the birds of the air, and over the cattle,

over all the earth

and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."

Genesis 2:20

20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air,

and to every beast of the field.

But for Adam there was not found a helper

comparable to him.

Now in the coming of the Second Adam --- Jesus.

Just as God sought a BRIDE for Adam

God sought a BRIDE for His Son.

He chose to prepare a companion

who would be able to share

His Son's rule over the universe.

Revelation 2:25-27

25 But hold fast what you have till I come.

26 And he who overcomes, and keeps My works

until the end,

to him I will give power over the nations —

27'He shall rule them with a rod of iron;

They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter's vessels' —

as I also have received from My Father;

Revelation 5:10

10 And have made us kings and priests to our God;

And we shall reign on the earth."

Revelation 20:6

6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection.

Over such the second death has no power,

but they shall be priests of God and of Christ,

and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

Revelation 22:3-5

3 And there shall be no more curse,

but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it,

and His servants shall serve Him.

4 They shall see His face,

and His name shall be on their foreheads.

5 There shall be no night there:

They need no lamp nor light of the sun,

for the Lord God gives them light.

And they shall reign forever and ever.

2 Timothy 2:12

12 If we endure, We shall also reign with Him.

If we deny Him, He also will deny us.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What is God's purpose for us here and now?
We, as God's chosen BRIDE, are being prepared for
FUTURE
RESPONSIBILITY.
Luke 19:11-26
Now as they heard these things, He spoke another parable,
because He was near Jerusalem
and because they thought the kingdom of God
would appear immediately.
12 Therefore He said:
"A certain nobleman went into a far country
to receive for himself a kingdom
and to return.
13 So he called ten of his servants,
delivered to them ten minas,
and said to them,
'Do business till I come.'
14 But his citizens hated him,
and sent a delegation after him, saying,
'We will not have this man to reign over us.'
15 "And so it was that when he returned,
having received the kingdom,
he then commanded these servants,
to whom he had given the money,
to be called to him,
that he might know
how much every man had gained by trading.
16 Then came the first, saying,
'Master, your mina has earned ten minas.'
17 And he said to him,
'Well done, good servant;
because you were faithful in a very little,
have authority over ten cities.'
18 And the second came, saying,
'Master, your mina has earned five minas.'
19 Likewise he said to him,
'You also be over five cities.'
20 "Then another came, saying,
'Master, here is your mina,
which I have kept put away in a handkerchief.
21 For I feared you, because you are an austere man.
You collect what you did not deposit,
and reap what you did not sow.'
22 And he said to him,
'Out of your own mouth I will judge you,
you wicked servant.
You knew that I was an austere man,
collecting what I did not deposit
and reaping what I did not sow.
23 Why then did you not put my money in the bank,
that at my coming
I might have collected it with interest?'
24 "And he said to those who stood by,
'Take the mina from him,
and give it to him who has ten minas.'
25(But they said to him,
'Master, he has ten minas.'
26'For I say to you,
that to everyone who has will be given;
and from him who does not have,
even what he has
will be taken away from him.
NKJV
Ephesians 5:25-27
25 Husbands, love your wives,
just as Christ also loved the church
and gave Himself for her,
26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her
with the washing of water by the word,
27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church,
not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing,
but that she should be holy and without blemish.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Revelation 19:7-8

7 Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory,

for the marriage of the Lamb has come,

and His wife has made herself ready."

8 And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen,

clean and bright,

for the fine linen is

the righteous acts of the saints.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We receive our WEDDING garment
at the Judgment Seat of Christ.
What will you be wearing to the Wedding?
There will be SORROW at the Judgment
1 John 2:28
And now, little children, abide in Him,
that when He appears,
we may have confidence
and not be ashamed before Him
at His coming.
2 John 8
8 Look to yourselves,
that we do not lose those things we worked for,
but that we may receive
a full reward.
Ezekiel 3:17-19
17 "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel;
therefore hear a word from My mouth,
and give them warning from Me:
18 When I say to the wicked, 'You shall surely die,'
and you give him no warning,
nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way,
to save his life,
that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity;
but his blood I will
require at your hand.
19 Yet, if you warn the wicked,
and he does not turn from his wickedness,
nor from his wicked way,
he shall die in his iniquity;
but you have delivered your soul.
Ezekiel 33:6-8
6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming
and does not blow the trumpet,
and the people are not warned,
and the sword comes and takes any person from among them,
he is taken away in his iniquity;
but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand.'
7 "So you, son of man:
I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel;
therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth
and warn them for Me.
8 When I say to the wicked, 'O wicked man, you shall surely die!'
and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way,
that wicked man shall die in his iniquity;
but his blood I will require at your hand.
How will we be Judged?
1. We will be judged IMPARTIALLY.
Romans 2:11
11 For there is no partiality with God.
James 3:1
My brethren, let not many of you become teachers,
knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.
2. We will be judged INDIVIDUALLY.
Romans 14:10-12
10 But why do you judge your brother?
Or why do you show contempt for your brother?
For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
11 For it is written:
"As I live, says the LORD,
Every knee shall bow to Me,
And every tongue shall confess to God."
12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.
3. We will be judged GRACIOUSLY.
1 Corinthians 4:5
..... Then each one's praise will come from God.23
For WHAT will we be rewarded?
1. Persecution
Matthew 5:11-12
11 "Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you,
and say all kinds of evil against you falsely
for My sake.
12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad,
for great is your reward in heaven,
for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
2. MEEKNESS and Humility
Matthew 5:5
5 Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
1 Peter 5:6
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God,
that He may exalt you
in due time,
3. Generosity
Matthew 6:19-20
"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and rust destroy
and where thieves break in and steal;
20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor rust destroys
and where thieves do not break in and steal.
4. Sacrifice
Matthew 19:28-30
"Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration,
when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory,
you who have followed Me
will also sit on twelve thrones,
judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
29 And everyone who has left houses
or brothers or sisters or father or mother
or wife or children or lands,
for My name's sake,
shall receive a hundredfold,
and inherit eternal life.
30 But many who are first will be last,
and the last first.
5. Caring Service
Matthew 10:38-42
38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me
is not worthy of Me.
39 He who finds his life will lose it,
and he who loses his life for My sake
will find it.
40 "He who receives you receives Me,
and he who receives Me
receives Him who sent Me.
41 He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet
shall receive a prophet's reward.
And he who receives a righteous man
in the name of a righteous man
shall receive a righteous man's reward.
42 And whoever gives one of these little ones
only a cup of cold water
in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you,
he shall by no means lose his reward."
41 For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name,
because you belong to Christ,
assuredly, I say to you,
he will by no means lose his reward.
6. Caring for the Poor, Hurting,
and those who cannot repay
Luke 14:12-14
12 Then He also said to him who invited Him,
"When you give a dinner or a supper, do not ask your friends,
your brothers, your relatives, nor rich neighbors,
lest they also invite you back,
and you be repaid.
13 But when you give a feast,
invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind.
14 And you will be blessed,
because they cannot repay you;
for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just."
7. Spiritual Disciplines
Matthew 6:3-4
3 But when you do a charitable deed,
do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
4 that your charitable deed may be in secret;
and your Father who sees in secret
will Himself reward you openly.
Matthew 6:6
6 But you, when you pray, go into your room,
and when you have shut your door,
pray to your Father who is in the secret place;
and your Father who sees in secret
will reward you openly.
Matthew 6:17-18
17 But you, when you fast,
anoint your head and wash your face,
18 so that you do not appear to men to be fasting,
but to your Father who is in the secret place;
and your Father who sees in secret
will reward you openly.
8.The People we have Won and Discipled
1 Thessalonians 2:19-20
19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing?
Is it not even you in the presence of
our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?
20 For you are our glory and joy.
9. Faithfulness in Suffering
1 Peter 1:6-7
6 In this you greatly rejoice,
though now for a little while, if need be,
you have been grieved by various trials,
7 that the genuineness of your faith,
being much more precious than gold that perishes,
though it is tested by fire,
may be found to praise, honor, and glory
at the revelation of Jesus Christ,
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Therefore we do not lose heart.
Even though our outward man is perishing,
yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.
17 For our light affliction,
which is but for a moment,
is working for us a far more
exceeding and eternal weight of glory,
18 while we do not look at the things which are seen,
but at the things which are not seen.
For the things which are seen are temporary,
but the things which are not seen
are eternal.
James 1:12
Blessed is the man who endures temptation; (trials)
for when he has been approved,
he will receive the crown of life
which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.28
10. Worship
Luke 10:38-42
Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village;
and a certain woman named Martha
welcomed Him into her house.
39 And she had a sister called Mary,
who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word.
40 But Martha was distracted with much serving,
and she approached Him and said,
"Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone?
Therefore tell her to help me."
41 And Jesus answered and said to her,
"Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things.
42 But one thing is needed,
and Mary has chosen that good part,
which will not be taken away from her."
11. Faithfulness
2 Timothy 4:6-8
For I am already being poured out as a drink offering,
and the time of my departure is at hand.
7 I have fought the good fight,
I have finished the race,
I have kept the faith.
8 Finally, there is laid up for me
the crown of righteousness,
which the Lord, the righteous Judge,
will give to me on that Day,
and not to me only
but also to all who have loved His appearing.29
12. Faithful Pastor
1 Peter 5:1-4
he elders who are among you I exhort,
I who am a fellow elder
and a witness of the sufferings of Christ,
and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed:
2 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you,
serving as overseers,
not by compulsion but willingly,
not for dishonest gain but eagerly;
3 nor as being lords over those entrusted to you,
but being examples to the flock;
4 and when the Chief Shepherd appears,
you will receive the crown of glory
that does not fade away.
Matthew 25:14-46
14 "Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his
servants and entrusted his property to them.
15 To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents,
and to another one talent, each according to his ability.
Then he went on his journey.
16 The man who had received the five talents went at once and put
his money to work and gained five more.
17 So also, the one with the two talents gained two more.
18 But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole
in the ground and hid his master's money.
19 "After a long time the master of those servants returned
and settled accounts with them.
20 The man who had received the five talents brought the other five.
'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with five talents.
See, I have gained five more.'
21 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant!
You have been faithful with a few things;
I will put you in charge of many things.
Come and share your master's happiness!'
22 "The man with the two talents also came.
'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with two talents;
see, I have gained two more.'
23 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant!
You have been faithful with a few things;
I will put you in charge of many things.
Come and share your master's happiness!'31
24 "Then the man who had received the one talent came.
'Master,' he said, 'I knew that you are a hard man,
harvesting where you have not sown
and gathering where you have not scattered seed.
25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground.
See, here is what belongs to you.'
26 "His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant!
So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown
and gather where I have not scattered seed?
27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the
bankers,
so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
28 "'Take the talent from him
and give it to the one who has the ten talents.
29 For everyone who has will be given more,
and he will have an abundance.
Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.
30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness,
where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory,
and all the angels with him,
he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory.
32 All the nations will be gathered before him,
and he will separate the people one from another
as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 "Then the King will say to those on his right,
'Come, you who are blessed by my Father;
take your inheritance,
the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.32
35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you invited me in,
36 I needed clothes and you clothed me,
I was sick and you looked after me,
I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
37 "Then the righteous will answer him,
'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give
you something to drink?
38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in,
or needing clothes and clothe you?
39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
40 "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth,
whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine,
you did for me.'
41 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who
are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat,
I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,
43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and
you did not clothe me,
I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'
44 "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or
thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison,
and did not help you?'
45 "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one
of the least of these,
you did not do for me.'
46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment,
but the righteous to eternal life."
