Updates From Pastor Tex
It is hard to believe but summer is gone. Children are back in school; College football season is starting Labor Day weekend and our CHURCH is expectantly starting a new church year with many exciting opportunities before us. Every Sunday this summer we saw a sanctuary full of people anxious to hear God’s Word and it seemed that every week brought new visitors which has been exciting, and making the decision to build our new worship center even more of a project vitally needed. Pastor Norman and I thank God for the vision and commitment of all of you and we’re anxious to see what He has in store for us as we follow His leading in our Church.
What is Happening at Wassamassaw Baptist Church?
1. September 2nd starts the new Sunday School year with a new 3-year curriculum the GOSPEL PROJECT. We will embark on this Bible study program, which begins in Genesis, on Sunday September 2nd. The Curriculum presents the Gospel as “God’s Plan of Redemption” for mankind. We will see how the BIBLE is one story and not a series of individual books but how they all point to the message of the Gospel. We have some excellent teachers and if you are not currently in a Sunday School class please think about joining one and being part of this exciting study. We are fortunate to have dedicated and committed teachers in our Sunday School program. Please be in prayer for these; God’s cherished servants.
a. Preschool (3, 4, & 5-Years-Old) Jacquie Ortiz & Assistant Debra Winningham
b. Children (Grades 1-3) Becky Coghill & Assistant Linda Cable

g. Adult 3 Bobby Wall
h. Senior Men Ben Cole
i. Senior Women Jan Holder
Adult Assistant Teachers Mike Harvey, Vernon Holder, Keith Pounds, Jamee Pounds, Paul Shanaman, Jennifer Shanaman
2. Financial Peace University. Jordan and Ashley Walsh will be leading the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University course starting Monday September 10th for 9 weeks. This is an excellent course on managing your finances and we are excited by the good response. There is still time to register the cost is $115.00 for an individual or family and you will be blessed by taking part.
3. Prayer Ministry. Maxine Rhode is heading up the prayer ministry and we are working to coordinate all our prayer activity so that the entire church is aware if all the prayer needs. Each Sunday School Class, Small Group and General Church prayer needs will be coordinated so everyone is aware of the prayer needs of the church. First Baptist Charlotte back in the early 2000’s adopted an Urgent Prayer Service (UPS) when their pastor, Dr. Charles Page, was fighting Multiple Myeloma. Every time they saw a UPS truck they were reminded of praying for Dr. Page or other urgent Prayer needs. We would like to do something to keep urgent Prayer needs in front of our church. Pray for Maxine as she develops this ministry.
4. Small Groups. This year we are going to change our small group focus to a continuation of the Pastor’s Sunday morning message. Small group leaders will explore the scripture in depth and then discuss personal application to the message Pastor Norman preached on the past Sunday morning. This new emphasis will begin the week of September 9th. Pastor Norman will begin a series in Romans on Sunday September 9th and all small groups will use the message/scripture as the study basis for their group meetings the following week. How can we apply the message in our lives an what does it mean in our world today? We are excited about this
5. Women’s Outreach with Ruth Graham. October 20th Ruth Graham, Billy Graham’s youngest daughter, will be with us for a Women’s Outreach. Space is limited. Our maximum seating capacity is about 200. Our goal is for the Women of Wassamassaw to invite unchurched ladies to come and hear Ruth’s message. Ruth tells her story in a straight forward way that touches the hearts of all that hear. This is an excellent opportunity to bring friends and relatives who are not part of a church or faith community and let them see of God’s love and caring for them. The program will be on Saturday October 20, 2018, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. Cost is $5.00 per person and we are suggesting that the Women of Wassamassaw invite and pay for 1 or 2 ladies they know who are unchurched. Registration and sign up sheets will be available shortly, and please remember space is limited so it is important to get your tickets early to be sure you have a spot. Sandy & I are blessed that God led us to Wassamassaw Baptist Church and we are excited about the opportunity He has provided the church.
Wassamassaw is at the center of one of the most rapidly growing areas in our country. We have the exciting and challenging opportunity to be His lighthouse in this area for “such a time as this”. Thank you for being the loving, caring church you are and thank you for welcoming not only us, but all who visit.

August 2018, Updates from Pastor Tex
July has been a busy but exciting month. It’s been great to see how week after week we have visitors coming to our church. The Flowe’s Sunday School Class is increasing almost by the week and the new attendees have been a great blessing. We can see God’s hand moving in the life of Wassamassaw Baptist Church.
There was an Introductory meeting for the new Fall Sunday School Curriculum on July 12thand, even though it was pouring rain right at starting time, we had a great turnout and a good meeting. As you may or may not have heard, the Gospel Project is the new three-year Sunday School curriculum for ALL ages. It begins, of course, with Genesis in September and focuses on God’s redemptive provision for us through His son Jesus Christ. We are excited about the possibilities and pray that our Sunday School Attendance will continue to grow. If you are not currently attending a Sunday School class, please consider joining one since Sunday School is a vital part of the teaching and equipping opportunity for our church.
Keith Pounds has accepted the position & responsibility as the new Sunday School Superintendent and I’m looking forward to working with him. Please pray for Keith and congratulate him as he begins this ministry in the life of our church. And, we would be remiss if we did not wholeheartedly thank Ken Felsher for the work he has done previously in the position. We appreciate His efforts and we honor & respect his decision to discontinue his position as Sunday School Superintendent for the coming year. Please thank Ken for his past ministry and pray for him during this time of change.
During August we will have several training sessions for Sunday School teachers and assistants to help them become more familiar with the Gospel Project Curriculum. Sessions for Children and Pre-School workers will be on Monday August 6th & 13th with another session on the 20th if necessary. Sessions for Youth and Adult Teachers & helpers will be on Tuesdays August 7th, 14th & 21st if necessary.
Starting September 10th Jordan Walsh will be leading the Financial Peace University (FPU) course at our church. FPU is the Dave Ramsey course on financial responsibility. This course has been extremely helpful to millions of people worldwide in helping them get their financial affairs in order and become debt free. We are excited about the opportunity to host this class and we pray that it will be a helpful tool for those attending. The cost is $115.00, for an individual person or a family. Each registration includes 1 set of materials for an individual or for a family to share. Please be aware that there will be limited scholarships available for any church member who might need some financial assistance in order to register. If you would like to attend and need some financial help, please contact either myself or Pastor Rogers.
Plans for the Ruth Graham event are coming along very well. Jennifer Shanaman and Karen Flowe are co-chairing the Women’s committee that will be hosting the event and all involved are doing an excellent job. Please mark your calendars for Saturday October 20th and hold that date. The Women’s Committee will be providing additional details & information soon. This is a great opportunity for the women of Wassamassaw to invite unchurched ladies you know to hear a message from Billy Graham’s youngest Daughter Ruth. Ruth has authored several books, the latest of which is “Fear Not tomorrow, God is Already There”. And her testimony can be very helpful to anyone.
There are more Discipleship and Evangelism opportunities in the works that will be revealed soon. With the rapid increase in population in our area God is providing a tremendous opportunity for us to be His messengers and bring the Good News of the Gospel to our area. Please pray with us as we continue to seek His guidance and His will in all that we do.

July 2018, Updates from Pastor Tex
We’ve had a busy and exciting time recently with many more opportunities in the near future. The way the Church has worked together on our Grow Campaign is exciting and proved excellent results. And, it would seem that the new building cannot be completed too soon as evidenced by our growing attendance. Here are some of the exciting opportunities coming up for Wassamassaw Baptist Church.
1. Prayer: Maxine Rhode has agreed to be the Wassamassaw Baptist Church Prayer Coordinator. Maxine will be coordinating prayer in every activity of our church. She will be asking Sunday School Teachers, Small Group Leaders and all committees & Teams to enlist a prayer leader in order to coordinate and keep all prayer needs up to date. In addition, she will recruit Intercessory Prayer warriors. Anyone interested in this ministry should indicate their interest on the volunteer forms being circulated.
2. Discipleship: We just completed a 13-week Discipleship Training with 12 men of our church participating. The program included intensive Bible Reading, Bible Study, Scripture Memory and training in the basic Doctrines of the church. We will be starting another course for Women in the fall as well as another Men’s class. Invitations to participate in these classes will be going out in the near future. Anyone interested please let me know so we can include you on the invitation list.
3. Sunday School. For the past few months Pastor Norman and I have been researching various Sunday School curriculums in an effort to coordinate the teaching programs in all of our Sunday School classes. We have arrived at one we feel will fit the requirements and our church very well. We’re looking forward to meeting with all Sunday School Teachers, Pre-School to Adults, as well as anyone who might like to be a teacher, on July 12th, to introduce a new Sunday School Curriculum that will begin in the fall. “The Gospel Project” is a new Lifeway series that is designed to present the Bible as One Story. Training for teachers will take place in August and we will start the new curriculum in September.
4. Financial Peace: On Monday September 10, 2018, Ashley and Jordan Walsh will begin teaching a nine-week course from Dave Ramsey entitled “Financial Peace University”. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in managing their finances better. Sign up opportunities will be available on the Web site as well as at the church. The Cost is $109 per person which covers the cost of each person’s materials from the Dave Ramsey organization.
5. Women’s Outreach: On Saturday, October 21, 2018, we’re planning a women’s luncheon that is intended to be an evangelistic outreach. Seating is limited, approximately 200 maximum. The Women of Wassamassaw Baptist will be encouraged to invite unchurched women to come for lunch and hear our guest speaker, Ruth Graham, Dr. Billy Graham’s youngest daughter. Ruth’s most recent book, “Fear Not Tomorrow, God is Already There”, has been a big success and she will share her story as well as talk about God meeting our needs. In addition, Mark Christian will be our Master of Ceremony and guest artist. Mark is currently Minister of Music at First Baptist Charlotte and serves as Master of Ceremony and guest artist for Will Graham Celebrations (Crusades). I met Mark when he was a singer in the Tony Orlando show in Branson, MO. Some friends of mine in Branson, Peter and JoDee Herschend, worked with me to put together a yearlong “First Sunday Evangelistic Outreach” in Branson. I supplied the evangelist and JoDee and Peter provided the theatre and guest artist, and we used Mark as the Program host and soloist. He is a graduate of Liberty University
There are more Discipleship and Evangelism opportunities in the works that will be revealed in the near future. With the rapid increase in population in our area God is providing a tremendous opportunity for us to be His messengers and bring the good news of the Gospel to our area. Please pray with us as we continue to seek His guidance and will in all that we do.
